It's Stoneleigh

ROUND HILL'S PRIVATE FAIRWAY COMMUNITY, IN THE SHADOW OF THE BLUE RIDGE
SWALLOWS PATTERN_ORANGE_WEB_edited.png

A neighborhood that still feels like a well-kept secret

Tucked off Route 7 outside Round Hill, Stoneleigh is 140 homes wrapped around a championship golf course, with the Blue Ridge as a backdrop instead of a skyline. The community took shape in 1992, the year the course opened, but the land underneath it has been settled since 1750.

Stoneleigh offers acreage, quiet, and club access, complete with golf, a pool, and tennis, right outside the back door.

Old stone,
New chapter

The land dates to 1750, with the manor house raised in the 1850s by the James family, stonemasons whose work still holds up the county's oldest walls. During WWII, U.S. Ambassador to Germany William E. Dodd owned the farm and used it as a retreat from Washington, a detail that later made its way into Erik Larson's In the Garden of Beasts. By the 1940s the property had become an orchard, the roots of what's now Mom's Apple Pie down the road. A few of those apple trees, along with stretches of stone wall and an old toll road, are still scattered across the grounds.

The golf course came later, laid out by Hall of Fame architect Lisa Maki. At 6,782 yards from the back tees with a 142 slope rating, it's one of the tougher tracks in Virginia, either a selling point or a warning, depending who's asking!
