THE STORY
Making room for what’s next
Rachael and Matt came to us through a referral from our fellow Realtors at Property Collective—and their move had more moving pieces than most.
They were selling their home in Marshall, Virginia, purchasing their next home in West Virginia, *and* relocating their business, Reptile House, from Dulles Town Center to a new commercial space across state lines.
So we weren’t simply looking for a house.
We were looking for a place that could support the life—and business—they were building next.
We toured properties with different amounts of acreage, different aesthetics, and very different ages. And like most couples, Rachael and Matt didn’t have identical wish lists.
Rachael wanted something newer. Matt really wanted a garage where he could work on his cars.
Then we found 429 Azure Drive.
The house itself wasn’t exactly what Rachael had envisioned. But the property offered something we hadn’t found elsewhere: the acreage they wanted and a barn with the potential to become Matt’s dream garage, including enough room for his car lift.
And somewhere along the way, Rachael said something that made the decision a little clearer:
“This is Matt’s turn to get what he really wants—as long as I get to renovate the inside.”
Fair enough.
Because the more we looked at the property through the lens of how their family actually lived, the more it made sense.
Both boys could have spaces of their own. Rachael and Matt could each have a dedicated office. The home was completely livable while they focused their time and resources on getting Reptile House established in West Virginia. The barn could evolve into the garage Matt had been hoping for.
And Rachael?
She’s already planning the kitchen and bathroom renovations that will make the home feel more like hers.
Once we knew this was the right property, we made sure we looked just as carefully at the details of the purchase. When repairs came up, we negotiated to have those costs covered for our clients—allowing Rachael and Matt to preserve more of their resources for the projects, business build-out, and changes they actually *wanted* to make.
Because there’s a difference between spending money fixing someone else’s problems and investing it in the vision you have for your own home.
For now, much of their attention is on a different kind of renovation. Reptile House has officially moved from Dulles Town Center to Berkeley Plaza in West Virginia, where they’re building out their new space with plans to open in mid-September.
This home wasn’t about finding something where every finish was perfect on day one.
It was about recognizing potential.
The space for two boys to grow. Two offices for two busy parents. A barn that could become the garage Matt had always wanted. A house Rachael could make entirely her own over time. And a location that supported the next chapter of their family business.
Sometimes finding the right home requires a little compromise.
But the best kind doesn’t feel like settling.
It feels like making room for everyone—and everything—that matters next.
P.S. We’ll be waiting patiently for Rachael’s dream kitchen reveal.

Chloe and Sherry were amazing throughout our entire home-buying process! They helped us find the right house across states, took the time to truly listen to what we liked and needed, and made everything happen on an accelerated timeline. They were responsive, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond every step of the way. We’re so grateful for all their hard work and highly recommend them! Even after the keys were handed over they are there to help with any questions after the fact! Top notch.
